DIY Projects - Lush Green Lawn in Spring
Spring is perhaps the best time of the year to kickstart some of the DIY projects including some tips to get greener grass. We offer a few tips through which you can achieve a healthy and good looking lawn:
Test the Soil:
Start with a soil test. Grass has been found to grow best in soils with a neutral pH (which is about 6.5 on the pH scale) and a region-appropriate amount of potash. If you do not have the best soil, you will face problems round the year. You will also end up wasting money on fertilizers and other soil amendments which won’t work properly because of the soil being either too acidic or too alkaline. On the contrary, if your soil has a good pH and optimum phosphorous and potassium, all you need to do is add a little amount of nitrogen fertilizer once in a while, which is relatively inexpensive.
Wake up Your Lawn:
It’s time for some mowing and edging! People are often confused as to trim before mowing or mow before trimming. It is recommended that you mow your trimmings, which means that you should trim before mowing your lawn – it makes your lawn look neater. A lawn which is very dense could require a spring dethatching. This technique would enable the soil to breathe and allow nitrogen exchange. SHG Trade Solutions comes with Makita OPE Range tools to help you keep your lawn in good shape.
Less is More:
It’s good to start working on a six-week lawn chemical schedule, starting with a typical type 1 product (fertilizer with a pre-emergent herbicide). Next, use a straight fertilizer with high nitrogen content and spot-spray a separate, selective weed control (instead of using a fertilizer with a weed preventer or weed-and-feed). It is better to treat weeds individually – the results are much better and the entire process is more cost-effective. Always remember to clean up – sweep off fertilizer remnants from walks and driveways into the grass.
